My father was in the Coast Guard Service and stationed on Mackinac Island about 1938 or '39. When my folks got married they took two sleighs, as in horse and sleigh, to the island. The first one carried her luggage and they rode in the second one in case the first one broke through. The path was marked with christmas trees. I do not know what year the Mackinac Bridge was built but my wife thinks '55.
