Brown leaf edges on Butterfly Japanese Maple

Hi,

Earlier this summer I bought a Butterfly Japanese Maple. Recently it looks like it's scorched. The edges of all the leaves are turning brown and curling. This tree is supposed to handle full sun. Does anyone know what could be happening? Could it be from watering the entire plant and not just the base?
