I would like to get a new saw. I am not brand loyal. I currently have a poulan 2255 and a stihl pro 360. The poulan is getting replaced. I want to get a good small saw for limbing and small trees. I figure I will be cutting around 12 cords a year. I would greatly appreciate words of wisdom from this group.

I have been looking at stihl 211,241,261 husky 543xp,440,450 Jonsered 2240,2245 I would consider Dolmar but the dealer is a little far for my liking. I know I am all over the board on price. I want a good saw that will last awhile and run when I want to use it. Which is the best and why?

I have a 550 and really like it. Get a 550 or 545 and you won't use the 360 much. They are light and handle really well.

look at my sig and you'll know what brand i would recommend. that said, a good reputable dealer is first on my list. one that has service after the sale if you need it and a staff that knows their stuff. i have been looking at the 241 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Your just a little biased Steve

The 2245 is a really good saw, always keep one in my truck and starts on the coldest days. Blows through wood. Also the ms 250 is one to look at, lots of torque. But lots of carb issue with that saw to. Had 5 tanks though mine before we replaced the carb.

Look at an Echo, or I would look at the Stihl 261 or a Husqvarna 543 or 550. You could look at a newer 60cc saw from Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo or Dolmar. That way you move the 360 to a limbing / backup saw and put an 18" bar on it. Start a saw rotation.

remember this,,on this fourm,,if you own anything other than a stihl..you are considered to be a low life..............................and the owners of stihls are high class.............................

Low Life here. I bought a Husky 555 AT last spring and there is no way I even break out the older Stihl 026 these days unless I manage to get my bar in a bind. It still happens because I am not yet an experience feller. That 555 is a great saw for felling, bucking and limbing. It is light and plenty of power for whatever you want to do up to the 20 inch bar mine wears. It always starts by the second pull and runs strong after it has warmed up for a few seconds. The first few seconds it sounds like it might die but it doesn't.

Personally in your case, if I were you, I would buy a good, new 50cc - 55cc saw and retire the old Poulan to cut up crap wood like pallets or punky, dirty or sappy wood.
I'd go for a Stihl MS291 with a 16" or 18" bar.
What size bar are you running on the Ms360?
