I can understand cities banning gas lawn mowers and leaf blowers. They're loud and annoying. The battery ones apparently work pretty well. However there's a lot of rural and mountain areas where people need to run the kind of equipment that current electric technology can't power yet. I'm also a native Californian who grew up in the 60s. There's too many people in the state now and the cities are too large. But there's still a lot of nice places. Even west of I5. It's a big state.
I can't find any published details of the proposed laws or regulations. The most I can find is this:
"This year, the air board is reducing the emissions allowed for gasoline-powered lawn equipment sold in California. As early as 2022, it wants allowed emissions to drop to zero. (Companies can in the meantime earn credits for selling machines that are below the standard, allowing them to continue selling gasoline-powered devices even after 2022.) The ultimate goal is ending the sale of gas machines, but that will come much later, Fibiger said."

From that it does not sound like a ban, but a phasing out of new sales over a long period of time. Hopefully that phase out will be slow enough that battery tech will have improved to where we have usable large battery-powered saws. Going too fast would impact the fire clearing that needs to be done in the state. And logging. Even though I understand and like two strokes, I would not mind a quiet lightweight powerful battery saw when and if one is developed. They make good small battery saws now. I know people who use them commercially in christmas tree farms and like them.
