Cat ignition question

Sometimes I see the glow around the gap of the cat chamber of my VC encore and I know (assume) I am getting a secondary burn. Dose this mean that I am not getting a secondary burn w/o the glow even though the stove is up to temp. If I am not am I to ASSUME that the efficiency is the same as if the cat was removed?

I'm not sure about your stove. But on my blaze king princess my cat doesnt always glow bright red or even look "hot", but according to the temp on the stove above the cat it is cooking away doing its thing. Hope that helps a little.
