Chainsaws stolen from Lonsdale, Minnesota

Around here chainsaws constitute 80% of stolen power equipment.
The local Stihl and OREC dealer told me they had a breakin a while back: the thieves only took 14 brand new high end Stihl's (362, 461 etc) and touched nothing else.
These saws will promptly leave the border (serial numbers had been given to the police) because selling a brand new Stihl even at a slight discount here would immediately attract more attention than Karen Gillan parading in a bikini down main street.

I started taking pictures of my saws and serial numbers and sending to myself in an email and saving so I can access from any computer. Even if something happen to your house you'd have proof fire, flood, tornado etc. you can do this with all valuables guns, jewelry etc.

Law enforcement makes a big difference. Three months ago my brother caught a theft on his surveillance camera ...
they took a bunch of catalytic converters and he found a cell phone with a bunch of info on it,, called the Law and nothing has happened. He opened the phone and saw a lot of drug related texting- pics of people This was definitely the thieves phone. The converters were under lock etc Does makes you wonder who is working for who after SEVERAL incidents like this over the last 4 or 5 years....

Engraving you initials somewhere on the equipment can help Id the saw.

I collect old Macs, and I have a couple where the original owner not only engraved his name on the saw but also his Social Security number!!! One is on a SP125 that came from Pennsylvania. At first I was kind of bummed about it being on there but now I think it's cool, a link to a different time. Obviously, doing that now would be about the dumbest thing you could do but back then a SSN had little value I'm sure.

I run a logging chain through the handles and loop that around one of the timbers in the barn. The creep could still cut the chain with a grinder or big bolt cutters but it's better than them sitting around free to grab and go.

Truth. At least make the suckhole work for it.

I just got off the phone with my dad who lives down just south of Lonsdale, Minnesota west of Fairbault. About 10 days ago he had a 610evl Twin Cylinder Echo, a John Deere 70ish cc with a 24" bar, and a Stihl pole saw stolen from his shed. He can't remember the exact model of the John Deere. This is the second time in the last year and a half that he had saws stolen. Last time they got his Stihl 084. Damn it. I was going to get that thing. If anyone comes across some damn meth head selling a super clean Echo Twin for cheap feel free to give them a good throat punching for me. He reported it to the police, lot of good that will do. Any info please let me know. Thanks

Sorry Andy. That really sucks. Best thing to do is follow CL/Ebay and call as many pawn shops as you can.

Yup, I took pictures of mine and then recorded the serial numbers.
