Chestnut (Rock) Oak

You here of white,red,pin,etc. oak but no one ever mention chestnut oak. I have alot of red n chestnut oak standing dead so I would like to get your opinions on chestnut oaks....tkanks

Chestnut oak is in the white oak family and from what I have gathered has a similar BTU rating as white oak. I have never cut it but have seen it many times in the woods where I do charity cuts up in NY state.

My father had a large chestnut oak taken down years ago and sawn into lumber. imo, works very similar to white oak. Never heard it called "rock" oak before. The hardest oak I've ever worked was pin oak.

Yes....I found that.....since I started the thread I have found a lot of older discussions about chestnuts....very imformative....thanks
