The other day, I was using my dad's Vermeer 625 chipper. It was doing two odd things while in use. The auto-feeder was running intermittently, it ran fine for the first 15-20 minutes, then pretty much stopped altogether. I shut the feeder down and just let the rollers take it all at a constant speed (fresh yellow cedar, 2 inch max). After a bit, I turned the auto-feed back on and it worked, but a lot slower. Any reason why it would do this? Also, I noticed that the hydraulic lines for the feed roller seemed to be steaming a bit. I have never noticed this before. Is this normal and I just didn't see it before (it was raining), or am I cooking something?

hyd oil gets hot. hotter if the level is too low.

I shall be nice and hold in reserve my opinions on the V625, lol

Sounds like oil level is low and possible filter clogged or both. Could also be wrong oil being used in the hydro system. Get it checked before the machine is completely fubar.
