Im wanting to get a brush and rods for my new chimney flue (stainless steel I think) and was wondering if I have to use one of those poly brushes or if I can just use the wire ones that they sell at our local hardware store. I think that I read somewhere that the wire brushes werent supposed to be used on the stainless pipes. Thanks in advance, Terry.

As I understand it, the square brushes are made of wire for masonry chimneys and the round brushes are made of poly for stainless chimneys. I read that the wire scratches the stainless and makes it easier for subsequent layers of creosote to adhere.

Do a search for "Rutland Chimney Brush" or take a look at Lehman's:

I have a manufactured chimney (6" round, stainless) and I clean it with a Rutland poly brush. Works great!
