I did a removal up in Mt.Baldy a few days ago. In this narrow canyon with a creek. Next to this cabin where I worked is a 140ft + incense ceder. A massive tree. Its half in the creek. It look vary healthy, but it had Conks going up it side maybe 30 ft.
The HO said they were bright green when they first came out. I have never seen a cedar with conks. Any one have any Idea of what they are? I'd like to research them a little.
Its kind of funny I saw a dead top of a fir tree near by, and told the home owner I would be a little concerned about that falling. He took me over to the tree. The sign in front of it said it was the oldest big cone Douglass fir in the world. 96 in. DBH and 500 to 600 year old. I guess I wont be working on that tree.
