I think he is confusing what you are doing with trimming oaks. Fall is the best time to trim them, but it sounds like you are taking them down altogether, right? It does sound like he is talking about oak wilt, which is a fungus. You can kill oak wilt by putting a black tarp over the stumps for the summer.
