If I remember correct dormant oil is a dilluted coating that you sray on trees to smother any egg sacks or larvae . It is best used in late winter early spring before buds are on the tree and before insects become active. It is used as a preventive spray for insects.

Yep that's the answer, I spray my pecan trees every year with it or they will get some kind of bug that deforms the leaves.
 
Thanks everybody. I'm too late for this year, but the trees are newly planted,and I'm going to cull all the fruit that sets this year anyway to give the trees a fighting chance-damn Canadian winters! Miniorchard
