Not sure if you're just wanting to sight see or what but here in LA, you can go offshore fishing near the Oil Rigs(awesome fun), go on an airboat tour, there's the aquarium of america's in new orleans, the river road plantations. Good food is easy to come by, some people think New Orleans has good food but IMO, Lafayette has the best cajun food/restaurants on earth.

Go to Front Royal Va. and go through the Shanandoah National Forest then on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. You will wind up in Cherokee NC. Its worth your while especially if you were on a motorcycle.

Would be nice. Our riding days are long over. Maine weather leads to other playthings now. My Triumph Bonneville ( featuring Lucas ), and SWMBO's 2-cycle 3 cylinder Suzuki are buried.
We'll run W.V. in the Forester.
Ah, but the wind in the hair...............alas.:cry:

Highly recomend the New River Gorge and the surrounding area in WV

:agree2:

And then from Cherokee take 441 up to Gatlinburg TN and spend a few hours (or the night) there

From Gatlinburg you can get out in the country side and see some things like >The Tail of the Dragon< at Deals Gap and the >Cherohala Skyway< Cherokee is a pretty cool little tourist town in it's own right and you could head up to Sevierville and Dolly Wood (Dolly Parton's theme park) if you're into theme parks.... lots of good fly fishing in and about the local streams and rivers also, ya just gotta know what day it is. ;)

Head south into Georgia and check out Stone Mountain on the northeast side of Atlanta and then pick up I-85 on down to Mobile.

When you get to Mobile I'm sure your friends will show you around but ya gotta head out to Dauphin Island just to say you did.

Coming back through Kentucky... check out the Corvette plant and >Museum< in Bowling Green in the southern part of KY. Maybe make a stop by Mammoth Cave (longest cave system in North America) and if you get as far north as Louisville swing by the legendary >Church Hill Downs< and the horse racing museum, then give me a call and I can meet you guys for some dinner and a beer.... maybe Marks Feed Store for some ribs and buttermilk pie or Ginny’s Dinner for a Sweet Daddy Burger bigger than your head  Lots of great little towns in KY, you could stop just about anywhere and have a good time if you're looking for it. You could tour many a Bourbon distillery in KY... just off of I-65 in Clairmont you can tour the Jim Beam distillery, Lawrenceburg has my favorite.. the Wild Turkey Distillery and Makers Mark is in Loretto.... not to far from there you can meet the legendary "Fish"... but I'd have on clean underwear and watch your back at all times if I were you, and no matter how much fun he makes it sound... DON'T GO FISHING WITH FISH.

There's a Bass Pro in Clarksville IN just a few miles north of Louisville that’s one of the nicer ones I've been to......

Man so much great stuff to see and do in this country..... Best advice I can give you is leave early with a pocket full of money and no real plan as to where to be at any given time and just have fun, some of the best vacations I’ve ever been on started out that way.

I'm sure you've been to the Gap on that 250???

No plans, just what you say.
Damn, in spite of all the negative-speak, this is a fine place to live, see, work, love.........play. :agree2::agree2:
Isn't that what's it's all about ? ( Sorry, I forgot: "Husky or Stihl"??? :spam:)

Woodbutcher, you would enjoy the Smoky mountains in east Tn. If you could give some idea as to your route, I might have some more ideas. One would be the blue ridge parkway. But only if you are in no hurry. You can get on in west virginia and go to georgia, beautiful view....Lanny

+1 Excellent advice.

Just had a thought (there's something new ) you said in one of your posts that you would be coming home in mid April??

If you can plan it out try be in Louisville on the 18th for >Thunder Over Louisville< ... the official opening ceremonies for the Kentucky Derby. It's a daylong air show with some of the top aerobatic teams and military aircraft in the world followed by the largest fireworks celebration in the US that night. Cascading waterfalls of fire coming from the second street bridge and all, if you've never been you have to see it once before ya die just to say you did. Best to see it from the Indiana side, but you need to get there early in the AM to get a good seat and parking, they literally shut down all the streets along the river for like a mile and a half out at around 10:00 or 12:00am and you’ll have to hike in from there. ;)

Will be hard to find a Hotel in Louisville around that time but if you plan ahead you might be able get one south of town or up around me if you start booking now.

Then theirs always the riverboat casinos if you’re just into throwing away money.

In Mobile, Al: Magnolia Springs. Red Buds, Maples, Dogwoods have been out since Kentucky.
What a big beautiful country ! We stayed off interstates and wandered off track onto state highways.
W. Virginia is both pretty and sad and rolling. It is strange to drive into spring and then down by the Gulf, into mid Spring, coffee on the porch ( the orders were to "set a spell") . Funny though to ride south into more and more lovely hardwood forests; we could use more oaks, walnuts, hickory Downeast.
Saw the New River Gorge, Gettysburg ( the cemetary is inspiring ), and Mamouth Cave tour. Now onto Pensacola Naval Air Station.
Yeah, I know this isn't "chainsaws". :monkey:
Appreciate the tips guys. Back to Maine in a week or so through the Smokies and Blue Ridge.

Cass Scenic RR is just down the road from the NRAO. A truly wonderful area...:)

You can also take a ride behind classic logging steam in Durbin...
