I have a very odd scenario where I am working on an Echo ED-2000 ice auger powerhead for a friend of mine. There is no dealer within 1000km's of me, so I'm on my own. The model number is stamped directly on the auger.

Echo's website is great (www.echo-usa.com), with excellent parts diagrams readily available. The only problem I have is that the ED-2000 is listed as a gas drill, not an auger. I guess I could see the powerhead being shared between the two products since both require a high-torque geared powerhead between the output shaft on the engine and the final drive.

My only problem is that I'd like to see how the handlebar set-up goes together (need to order a throttle block I think, it's been beaten on so I can't really tell) and the only IPL I can find shows the drill handle arrangement.

Any ideas? The only auger that Echo lists right now is the EA-500. Yes, I already tried searching for EA-2000 but no luck.

I just tossed out the remains of 4 echo gas drills. Made two from the heap.
I dont have an IPL but do know there are two different handle bar mounts on the drills, the newer one being much better not allowing the bar to be bent.
If you like I can take a picture of my drill. Don't know where you are but there is a dealer here, they are awesome to deal with.

The one I have looks totally different from the drill handles. The ice auger uses a circular perimeter bar hoop right around the engine, then two 10" handlebars stick straight our from each side (one with a throttle trigger) so that you can hold the auger upright and have two hands to resist rotation, from the top it looks like:

--O--

Know what I mean?

Too bad you thew out all your leftover parts. You don't happen to have an orange engine casing, intake air casing or a throttle block/trigger still kicking around, do you?

I am in Labrador, so I'll try to use a dealer in NF or Quebec before I venture as far out as BC, but it's nice to know that there is a good dealer out West if I don't have much luck here.

There was no echo ice auger like you describe in North America....can you post pics?......someone must have adapted parts from an earth auger

Well, perhaps this auger came from MelMac with Alf, who knows. I do live on a Military Base that has people from all over the world stationed at it, so anything is possible. Now that I look at the auger a little more and at the exploded views it is definitely an ED-2000 powerhead, just with a different handle. The handle is definitely not a homejob as it looks and fits way too well, but I have no idea where it could have come from.

The attached pics are very rough as they were taken from a camera phone, but they should get the point across. Again, the model stamped directly on the housing is ED-2000 so it must be some sort of a converted gas drill :censored:

I am pretty sure that is an Australian echo item.....but I could be wrong...particularly today

Do you need the throttle control at the handle or the carb?

It looks like it is a twist throttle if I am seeing it right

Australian?! Oh my.

I need the throttle block that mounts to the handle and the finger-throttle that mounts to the handlebar (i'm thinking that may be the same as the drill, just mounted in a different location, but I'm not sure). It is not a twist throttle. I also need the orange engine housing and the air filter cover right on the carb itself.

Is it a finger tab?...that is what the drills use.....I think I have a used one here....looks like a trimmer throttle...sort of

I'll take whatever works, especially from a site sponsor. If you have a plastic block (both halves), trigger and spring I'll take that, otherwise a metal one is fine too. The existing throttle block is too shagged to take a new finger throttle, so just a replacement throttle won't cut it.

I just found something.......the Tanaka drills used a much less breakable plastic for their triggers....but you need to drill a hole through the handle to mount them...they are what we put on the tapper drill conversions that were done here for ice augers....I'll get a pic and post it

That's not bad, but I still need to mount up the kill switch, so the original throttle block would still have to stay on there.

To be honest, this thing was just abused and not stored properly when in transport. The owner has been scolded accordingly and is now fabricating a box for the powerhead to go in when moving around. If you have the Echo throttle block and plastic lever, it should be fine this time around. If not, I could look at installing the Tanaka stand-alone style lever that you posted.

I'll get an echo one tomorrow......

Right on. You get me a throttle assembly and we're laughing. I'd love to have an orange plastic engine cover as well for the ED-2000, but I'm not sure what that costs.

PM me with costing on the throttle assy and the engine cover. I have PayPal funds ready to go. This is great. Don't worry about shipping cost, I am in Canada and I am used to paying out the a-hole so that's not going to be a dealbreaker as long as you're OK using USPS.
