eucalyptus spp. in the U.S.A

Just wondering,
are Eucs considered a weed in North america?
from memory i think they originated in Sth america (note: my memory is shiite).
Is this because theyre introduces species or prone to shed limbs or what?
or have i just got my facts all wrong.
appretiate any info.
