Cap has little rubber duck-bill in center of cap held in by a star washer. Used a pick to pry out the washer and duck-bill valve. Rubber seemed fine. Only leak path must have been that the valve was not firmly seated against the mating surface inside the cap. Hosed out the cap with brake cleaner, then used a 5mm nut driver to reseat the valve. No more leaks! I'll bet this cap leaked since new.

This is for a cheapo Poulan Pro but maybe there are other saws with this vent style.

The 5mm was small enough to let me seat the star washer, and also large enough that the hollow center of the driver would fit the duck-bill.

I know I'm supposed to not like the Poulan PP4218AVX but I dont hate it. Rather use my Husqvarna 350 or 55 but if I only had $75 to spend on a saw a person could do worse. It should have a 16" bar, though.
