Talk about odd

I had relatives (father & son) apx. 30 years ago who did something similar.

The father was in Washington and the son in Oregon
Both were named Cliff.

When we received the word that Cliff had cut his hand off to survive. We were not sure which Cliff.

We later learned that the father was changing a tire in a rural area when the car jack gave way crushing his hand under the wheel unable to get to the jack - he took his pocket knife and cut it off.

The son Cliff also found himself in a position to where his hand was crushed from a concrete slab, he also used his pocket knife.

Later that day we found out that both incident's happened within an hour of each other. It took the family sometime to realize both were hurt.

Extreme hereditary accident propensity? or- Congenital stupidity? or- Cosmic conspiracy in with the victim wasn't specified closely enough? Both at once sounds TOO weird.
