I have bought myself a toasted 357 XP,
it has run straight gas ... that is what the seller told.

I still have to do an inspection,
but assume that this piston and cylinder can not be saved anymore.

If the rest of the saw is still good I will definitely rebuild it.
But what are your experiences;
Only OEM or Chinese imitation?
Is there perhaps something like a big bore kit?
Or is there another cylinder from Husqvarna that does the trick ?

Oh well, of course a new cylinder will also get a mild port job,
There is nothing easier than improving the flow for more power!

I have to see first.
Maybe there is another problem;
Air leak or running lean on fuel is still possible.

I hope that there is not too much 'tamed' with the saw
to make a good diagnosis.

Question

Which one is correct ??

I try to avoid saws that have been straight gassed. Most will need new crank bearing, oil seals and check the cage bearing on the rod carefully, as it may need a new crankshaft too. Sometime you can save the cylinder, but it want have new like compression when cleaned up.

Which one is correct ??
None of the above.
First one has three that came out of a fine running saw I think. Only the rich could be smokey. The lean is just fine.

Second one has an unused one as a to lean Example. Maybe it is so lean, it didn't run. The others are correct.

Why do you want to know? If it is to lean, it revs to high ( a rev meter is really cheap). If it is to rich, it starts to smoke.
Only if it doesn't start, you check the spark plug, and then you can expect far more extreme pictures.
Or am I missing something?

I think the 357 had issues with intake boot clamp..plastic vs metal....so that is a consideration...it is a well known chassis with folks out there that really know them...any of the saws that I have salvaged and repaired all have oem top cylinders...

good luck

Today the saw is delivered at home
Dismantled by the previous owner ...

He was a go-getter.
But when the Chinese cylinder also gave up,
he wanted to get rid of it.

Fortunately for me, both molested cylinders were included.
A lot of carbon, and wear of aluminum on the exhaust side.
No straight gas, I guess (?)

1, box with junk 2, Mahle cylinder 3, something Cinese

It amazes me how many people run straight gas in a chainsaw. These are the same people that shouldn't be anywhere near one. :dizzy:
I straight gassed my 353 once. At the same time my FIL straight gassed his. What happened was his son used all the mixed fuel for his dirt bike, filled the can up and never fille it up with oil. I was pretty annoyed. Two good saws had to be rebuilt.
