used chipper

well you are going to get some opinions on this thread.

I own, run, and work on all my own equipment. I have owned 4 vermeer 12 inch chippers, one bandit 150, and most recently a Woodsman 12x.

The Woodsman is better, simpler, and most user friendly. Just get plenty of horsepower! Because even though it is considered a 12 inch chipper, the feed opening is 13x24! which is way bigger than any other 12 inch chipper. And as you know, you are gonna max out whatever will fit through that hole.

Look for parts that wear out. They are usually marked by a grease zert. The woodsman has 5. My vermeer had about 15. The bandit was just a pile of crap. I owned it for 3 MONTHS because it took 2 months to sell it.

But, older Vermeers are pretty solid. You can usually pick up a 1230 or 1250 for 10g. Just grease the heck out of them.
