Here’s a thought. 372 or anything else you don’t mind drilling holes in.

this has gone on a crazy tangent. i was originally responding to a guy that said you would lose power by drilling holes in ur top cover. which is f-ing stupid. i seriously doubt any significant positive pressure exists in any airbox on any saw at any rpm. i seriously doubt you could produce enough positive pressure to impact the amount of air delivered to the carburetor.

Well, my 462, one of the best power to weight ratios on the market has no holes into the air box besides what's left open around the switch. Literally none, I just took a good long look at it. It's purposely sealed off otherwise. So obviously they're able to to provide plenty of air to that air box with the flywheel because the hole around the switch is smaller than the throat in the carb.

We can agree to disagree...no problem there. It was just a discussion, neither of us have any real evidence or facts to back up our claims.

Maybe I'll tape some tissue paper over the switch on my saw and see if it gets blown out or sucked in...seems easy enough to test.

I like this idea with the paper. I bet it gets blown off.

You’re always going to have more air being pushed in from the fly wheel and you are air being pushed out the exhaust by the piston. The piston is pulsing air in through the carb. The fly wheel is constantly pushing air into the air box.

Just a guess.

I guess I could try it with my husky and just unclip the top cover fasteners and see if it gets blown off or if it gets pulled down from suction.

Here’s my 2100 air box upgrade. Haven’t put her to the wood yet but she sounds really healthy. The pre filter screen still works. We mod mufflers for increasing the exhaust flow? Why not the intake to increase the fresh air flow intake? I can’t wait to tweek the motor and put the wood to her.
