I have a cylinder that I would like to do some mild porting to. I don't have a hone, but would like it to be honed with the new rings I'll be installing. Would you hone before porting or after porting? Pros/cons with either way?

Do a search, there are many, many threads on this subject, but IMO honing a Nikasil coated bore with something like a ball hone is a no-no, particularly if there is no bore damage as all it does is knock the peaks off the coating and reduce it's oil retention qualities. I've posted links in the past from the manufacturers to back this up.

Nikasil and chrome bores aren't cast iron ;)

Did a little searchin'. Guess I'm off to buy some "green" scotch-brite pads, and some elbow grease if need be. Thanks guys.
