Homeowner contemplates removal one red oak and two ash trees. House damaged from settling. Building engineer states trees pulling moisture away, plus basement escape windows, and drought have all combined to create problem. Trees are 20ft from house. Any thoughts? Sound plausible?

20 ft from the foundation? Doubtful the trees have much to do with the foundation damage.

Roots run toward more aerated soil, not compacted foundation soil with little nutrient, pore space, or moisture.... those ash may need to be removed someday due to EAB though.

Thanks for the input. EAB has not gotten here in central Kansas yet.
