How long from felling to milling?

I have just cut down about 15 Maple, a few American Beech, and one or two Bass Wood to make way for a house that I'm building. I want to use the wood for possibly making floor boards, base boards and general high grade lumber. How long can the felled trees stay on the ground at this time of year before they will begin to discolour? The ground is slightly sloped and drains well. My local mill said only 4 weeks but this doesn't sound right to me somehow?

I would take the mills advice,especially when it concerns the maple.
