This is primarily from a milling standpoint, but I'm trying to collect some rough numbers for how many square feet one can cut before needing to sharpen.
For example:
I was getting 25 square feet in red maple with a JD CS62 and 3/8 milling chain,
BobL was getting about 32 sq feet w/ an 880 in Aussie hardwood
Especially on these big wide cuts. I did get 63 feet of cut with 2 chains, the average width was ~27 inches. could of used at least another 2 or three chains, you can sure tell when they start going South!
so that reads like about 70 sq feet /chain in white oak.

Can I ask you what chain you are using exactly and what brand of mill?
Thanks

The last thing I milled was slightly seasoned black oak. I sharpened every 2 cuts so every 24 square feet.

On pine I can get away with sharpening every 75 square feet. I have a bunch of 8' long and 1' in diameter pine logs, I usually sharpen after doing one whole log.
