Husky 268xp Cylinder Head & Piston on 266xp

The piston exploded on my Husky 266xp and took out the cylinder head and piston along the way. Does anyone know if the 268xp cylinder head and piston will work with the 266xp? I know the intake bolts are different on the head. If I got the carburetor adapter and the longer bolts off the 268xp, would the cylinder head and piston work? Has anyone done this conversion? The parts are less expensive for the 268 versus the 266 so I thought I would ask. Thanks everyone on here.

Hmm, I think the 268 cylinder will fit the 266 bottom end the main issue will be whether or not the 266 carb/intake etc will bolt onto the 268 cylinder.

Are you sure that cheaper 268 jug really is an xp one - and not one for the later open-ported "streight" 268?

IF it'll take the 268 C&P, then a better alternative might be the 272XP C&P kit from Bailey's. I didn't see it listed on Bailey's site, but Greg indicated the part number to be CKN 272. The part DID show up when entering the number at Bailey's search.

The 268 is a direct bolt on if you have the 268 intake setup with the cyl.
