I cut some today, help with tree ID Thanks.

I have been cutting today, MS460, 036, MS170 I Have had a good time. Can one of you tell me what tree this was, the pictures didn't come out. The wood is almost yellow. The bark was longer than anything I have seen and stuck out a inch or two on the trunk. It was also real easy to split.

Looks like Sassafras,burns good but throws sparks pretty bad.

Definitely popular. Locust isn't too easy to split or cut.

That is a possibility too, but the bark usually isn't that thick.

Thanks guys I'm looking up each tree you state, it has been dead some time no leaves around.

The color looks like white oak. If it's stringy, that would be my guess. Locust doesn't have a real rough bark around here.

In the bottom pic is the defining one for me and I say it's poplar also

that odd it looks like locust but i dont think it would cut very fast unless small diameter logs what was the diameter and if its sas it would smell like birch beer any more clues weight smell grain ?

It was around 22" at the knee. I don't remember any smell. I will add I have had some in the stove for 3 hours no poping seems to burn slow.

locust burns slow and hot sas burns fast and pops poplar burns fast and i think you know how oak burns so i say locust still

I will add it did cut quite a bit slower than a 14" elm that was in the way.
