ID this scrubby tree!

Cut down this small scrubby tree for a friend behind his shed. I have never seen anything like it, but I can tell you from how soft and sappy it is will burn like garbage! The branch ends have fuzzy tufts starting like ##### willow. (Sorry for the bad VGA pics from my phone)

I searched for a few pics of sumac trees and think that may be it! Is the heartwood always that yellow? Looks like I'll have to score one for Utilityman! Nice work.

Its rare to find large diameter sumac trees ( over 4" in NY ) but it is an excellent turning wood, Beautiful grain.

summac is more of a shrub than a tree, around here its rare to see them over 3". kindling is all i,ve burned them for. same thing for sassafras

Sumac makes excellent spiles for maple sugaring, too.

i agree with sumac. ive seen very few that get large but that looks identical.
