This saw has a 3 foot bar. I'm fixing it for a friend. It was run lean on gas and got a little to hot. Needs new piston and rings. He said it has a big bore cylinder on it. Piston measures 55mm. But what model saw is it??? Oh and the serial number is gone!

Someone will be able to tell EXACTLY what this saw model is but with my limited knowledge on older huskies I'd guess a 2 series of some sort. The cylinder is not to big maybe a 262 or 272?? Good period for husky back then. I just read the 3ft bar (post above)...maybe a 288? (Edit) A 390xp has a 55mm piston to give you an idea of displacement.

Looks like a 268/272 to me. But a 36" is too big for a 272 (but maybe not for everybody) and a 272 has a 52mm bore. Maybe 281/288 ....if that's an oem jug the decomp is on the wrong side for a 288 and a 288 is a 54mm piston. What are the #s on the cylinder? Throw out the 3 foot bar and 55mm and I'd say 268/272 all day..
There are no #s on this cylinder. It's a considerable bigger saw than my 55.

These other guys know way more than me...so I went and looked at my268 and 272...I dunno about 36" bar and 55mm piston but your pics look like the saws in my basement.

181 and 281 were 52mm
288 were 54mm, the 54mm would fit on the 181/281.

Not aware of any 55mm p/c sets for those saws.

It started as a 266. 272 has bolts for the muffler, 266 has studs. Someone has put a 272 cylinder/piston on the saw at some point. Easy way to tell - take the recoil off. It probably has the 2 piece ignition.

Yes it has a 2 piece ignition.
