Ahh the legendary iPhone.

I can see that their marketing still works very well..... :msp_rolleyes:

Spoken like someone who never used an I-device. You can try and fight it but it is easier to submit. Apple has the market cornered on the user interface and have since their beginning. You can pretty much thank them for every GUI in use today, or we could go back to archaic programming languages.

Wow!!:msp_scared:

Can you say that here?

Saw that app, but didn't seem like it got good reviews.

Am anxious to hear how this turns out, this would be excellent if it worked... :)

After using it, i understand the reviews. It's certainly not user friendly, but after learning the program, I think it's worth $9

Android users, rejoice! Similar programs are on the Play Store... Most are free. I just downloaded one and am heading out in a bit to check it out. Review pending...

Yea, seems that complications come from setting it up and such.

But some of the reviews said that as long the instructions are followed and it is set up right, that it works well.

I was just worried about it working though, I usually keep them a little rich anyway, but l would be a nice and cheap confirmation of tune.

Hmm, I do have a tach for cars that reads off spark, could check its accuracy with that too.

I'm prolly the biggest geek in the chainsaw community my friend. :)

I'm typing this post on the 3rd MacBook I've owned. Have owned a MacBook since 2006.

I stood in line for the first iPhone on release day, the 3G on release day, the 3GS on release day, and the 4 on release day. Over many many years I have been a hardcore Apple Fanboy. The ordeal with the delayed release of the worthless 4S and Apple's (fairly recent) sloppy way of doing things has been my reasoning for being extremely annoyed with iOS and the iPhone. I couldn't wait to upgrade my 4, but the 4S came out and I got sick of Apple letting their loyal customers down. A couple months later after the release of the worthless 4S I bought my first Android phone (Galaxy Note).

The iPhone 5 is a tall version of the 4S, there's really nothing new about it. Apple needs to get their heads of of their asses with ********** Tim Cook leading them farther away from what they once were. Funny how soon after Steve Jobs became very ill with his cancer, did the let downs start (with the start of the 4S being delayed and the rest of their horrible decisions taking place).

I still have my MacBook and love it. But Apple needs to re address the iPhone. It's no longer revolutionary. Compared to the flagship android phones the iPhone 5 is a (too small) outdated device that isn't much more capable than the few versions before it. Then with that being said, they fired their executive iOS developer, Scott Forstall.

Some of their products these days are still great, but the iPhone needs a major revamp if they plan on hanging with the big boys of the android phones. They have done a good job with their polished marketing to keep their fan base around, but they'll need a lot more to impress someone like me. And with the way Tim Cook is doing things I see none of that changing anytime soon....

The 2 Android apps I downloaded and tried didn't work at all.... Random number generator is more like it. Didn't try long, might tinker some other day.
The 2 that I tried were more for RC helicopter guys.

I develop mobile apps across all platforms, and I'm not worried about Apple or iOS right now. At least from the standpoint of sophistication/richness of apps, they are still way out in front. That said, Android is always getting better and leads in many areas too. I don't think any one company/platform has to be the best. Apple led the way on touchscreen devices, but I wouldn't expect them to hold the lead forever. In fact, if Apple is true to form, the next big thing will make the current generation of all touchscreen devices look like a model T Ford. We'll all get to see how it plays out in the coming years, as the smartphone market is still young.

Personally, I love the iPhone 5. It's a marvel of systems engineering that the 4/4S was not. I have about 20 smart phones on my desk, all platforms, and none come close to the materials/fit/finish of the iPhone 5. Internally, the CPU and GPU are class leading for performance to this day (I pay attention to the benchmarks) and the sensors (accelerometer, gyro, GPS, etc) are top notch. Apple is known for polishing their products over time, and I think the iPhone 5 is a perfect example of that. The problem is, they are running out of things to perfect at this point with hardware.

I do think iOS is getting a little stale, but it is highly polished at this point, where Android is clearly still evolving and maturing and has many inconsistencies and rough edges.

Forstall was a douchebag and had a big head. People within Apple cheered when he got the boot. I don't think he will be missed at all. He was constantly causing division and creating politics within the company.

Those of us working with Apple for the past few years know that much of their success is due to the operational genius of Tim Cook. Apple's supply chain, manufacture base, and distribution model are all his creation. You can have all the vision of Steve Jobs, but without the right people to implement and carry it out, it's useless. So Cook deserves a lot of credit for where Apple is today. As to where they go in the future, we'll have to wait and see. Cook clearly doesn't have the vision of Jobs, but neither does anyone else in the business. Steve was a one of a kind person. Steve's greatest creation was putting Apple's product development process in place, where the company was capable of doing great things and bringing big ideas to market. I think Steve will ultimately be judged by how well Apple does in his absence.

Now you need to find way to eliminate "Bros Iphone" after all your posts.
Plus the "sent from tampontalk" users....

Or, for $35 (or possibly $25 if you shop around), you could buy a works connection tach and actually measure your saws real RPM and sleep better at night. It's probably worth going with the Iphone app if your saw(s) is worth less than $25 though.

Shaun
(yes, I have an iphone 5, a 4s, an ipad 2, a macbook air etc etc)

I downloaded this and played with it a bit and compared it to my tech tach and it's not clear to me that this app is worth it.

I'm going to keep playing with it and will try to learn how to use it better but it seems pretty limited. Whatever internal sensor of the iphone they are using to determine the rpm probably wasn't intended as such.

It is somewhat limited, and a little tough to learn, but is pretty accurate once you get it dialed in. I wouldn't recommend it for someone that has a good tach already. It's just kind of a cool toy...
