20180626_200532.jpg 20180626_200520.jpg Hey all,
It's been a great year for odds and uglies coming my way.
Check out the latest.
McCulloch D33 lesabre.
Left handed or just a new way to look at things?
I need to get back to the barn to find a few more parts but it runs well already!
Sounds like a bag full of m80s according to my neighbors.

I had never seen one. Thanks for sharing

33/35 on its side. But, direct drive.

I had a 35. Not going there again. [emoji13]

The diaphragm in the ‘carb’ is a deal breaker IIRC. Scarce and expensive.
Lucky for me I didn't have to get to the carb.
Looks like a big deal to get out.
And a slide instead of a butterfly valve to boot!
My favorite is the big open air filter on top. Some versions (later?) had it covered.
Guess they were still figuring things out back then.

WOW is that supposed to be the spark arrester that huge screen on the top?

Archaic looking thing, but I’d love to have one!!! I thought my super pro 60 was old, yours must be a generation before or two?

Naw, that ridiculous screen covers the carb.
The exhaust is right against the chain guard.
Actually curves away from the guard it's so close.
No spark arrest, no baffles.

Behold, sans filter and half throttle.
For the same era, this thing is high tech compared to my David Bradley saws.20180627_182129.jpg20180627_182049.jpg

Hey all,
I found the rest of it!
I think it looked neater without the beat up top cover.
Nothing a little paint won't fix.
Had to build a handle brace from a 1073 handle but it looks pretty good.
Easily the oddest saw I've found.
Yet...

Assuming you want to run it and "original condition" is not your top priority --
If the diaphragm is made of unobtainium, would it be possible to make some sort of adapter block and install a new production butterfly carb?

I'm sure it would be tricky.
That thing is really shoehorned in there.
Luckily it runs well for me already.

The Le Sabre is a direct drive version of the 33/35/39 Series saws. There were a wide range of attachments as well, spur gear drill, direct drive drill, ice auger, brush cutter, the bevel gear drive saws, and the Le Sabre direct drive version. Everything about these models is different from almost any other saw, but they are relatively simple to work on and extremely reliable once you get them in running condition.
