Those saws had an optional auto sharp chain, very similar to the power sharp being sold today by Oregon. There would have been a button in that hole to press a grinding stone against the top of the chain to sharpen it. When the auto sharp is not used, there was a rubber snap in cover that was supposed to fill the hole, pn 93528.

That was the first saw I bought in 1979/80. And the first thing to come off that saw was the auto sharpner and the chain brake.
I learned on that saw. Then after the old timer was satisfied he let me move up to a couple of his second team saws, Stihl 031 McCullough 1010. First team saws, McCullough PM 700s and Super Pro 81 and up, all I could with them was, look at, gas and oil, and move back up the hill and put in the truck. Great job thou.:msp_biggrin:
