Well I finally did it, converted a fairly good MS 290 to a MS 390 with a MM. I had a MS 290 that was straight gassed, P/C not good at all, so I installed a complete new 039 engine on it. I did a MM but as you can see a little different approach than some of you AS members have done. The original owner ran out of mixed gas, so he used straight gas to finish out a load of firewood (not a good :poop:'n idea) he said that he didn't think a little straight gas would hurt it for a few more cuts (wrong). I also put the MS 390 carb on it along with a MM, I started it up to re-tune it and this sucker does not even sound like a STIHL chainsaw any more. Well better go out and find the sweet spot on the carb adjustment.

Just did a similar conversion. I need to put some time behind it this weekend and make sure all is good to go.

I hope Baileys comes out with the aftermarket 039 kit soon, it will surely make fixing 029's a more worthwhile endeavor.

nice....you can go bigger with the MM.......did you change the jets in the carb?

No I did not because I used the 390 carb and it adjusted out great, the MM gave it some added RPM's and torque in the cut.

BTW Were you the one looking for a pristine 2094 Jonsered, I think I may of found one, with less than 6 hrs on it.

PM me if interested. :fingers-crossed:
