Hi! New to this forum, hopefully this post is in the correct subforum.

I am planning to modify the muffler on my ms194 and have read threads and watched videos of people modding their 192/193/194s.

However, it seems the muffler on mine is a bit different. I wonder what is under the deflector plate? Anyone modded thiers? Seems silly to not be able to remove the deflector with like a screw.

Hi and welcome.

I've not done a 194 but it looks straightforward. Clean all the oil out so no chips get stuck in there. Grind out the space around the 4 holes in the baffle (photo 4), drill a hole in the the front (I like that debossed section), weld a pipe nipple or EMT in the chosen deflection direction. if you can't weld, a sheet metal deflector can be made by hand and riveted to the can.

Keeping it clean and the chips out of the muffler is key. Gas actually flows back into the cylinder every stroke. Do not rely on the saw to blow the shards out. A single metal shard can ruin your saw.
