i was thinking the same thing but i would sooner had the tooth go there instead of the green link

Maybe it keeps people from asking why they had two same side cutters in a row. This breaks the monotony! Good deal!
 
The thing is that when I placed the saw on the counter at the saw shop I asked for the kind of chain that was on it. Right before I left I looked and there was a low kickback chain in the box. So I asked for a real chain. When I got home to install the chain sure enough a low kickback link was in there. Maybe the guy in the back was mad because he had to make up two loops.
 
I was a run of Oregon 3/8 semi chisel that had left and right cutters paired on the same rivets. There was about 6 feet of it like that on a 100 ft roll.

You can score the rear projection with a file corner like in the image, and snap it off with pliers.  Should only take a moment and renders it less useless.
