Ive seen a few on Ebay. Not sure why youd want that over the CS-370 though. IMO, theres a lot of little things they changed on the 370 that make it better (such as the easier access to the air filter).

Echo 346 vs Echo 370

Unfortunately the 370 got about 2 pounds heavier than the 346 and for light trimming I would like to save that additional weight. I've been watching ebay too and what I have seen is used. I would think some dealer would still have a few 346's remaining and would want to move them out but maybe not.

I use my CS-306 with a 12 inch bar for light cutting and save my CS-370 for the little bigger stuff, allthough I dont find the 370 overly heavy.

The 370 is the superior performer by far, but both are exceptionally reliable saws. The 346 is just an older design, 2lbs lighter saw that doesnt pull quite as hard.

Again, it's up to the end user as to his preference. Go to a dealer, hold both, make your decision then and there.

Octane, 2-2.5 pounds is a huge difference......

The 340 anyhow weighs a mere 7.5 lb, but it's built for arborist work, though the rear handled 346, due to its light weight, could easily be used aloft. the 370, however, weighs the same as the Shindaiwa 488, but at about 2.2 horsepower I'm sure, is a joke.

the 370 should be compared to the Stihl 180. The power is prolly the same or less, but the 180 is 1.2 pounds lighter. There's other light, peppy, cheap saws out there as well...the Shinny 377 is a proven performer. 8.8 lb, 2.4 hp, i think, are its specs.

Still looking for Echo 346

I would like to go to a dealer to feel a 346 but I can't find a 346 to feel. That's the problem! I got along great with an 11 pound power head 30 years ago. The trouble is- that was 30 years ago. Still trying to find an Echo 346 at a good price. The 370's are all over the net new for $200 but they weigh 10 pounds. I suppose another option would be a really clean used 346. A pawn shop on ebay looks like a risky proposition. I would wonder if the previous owner remembered to add the oil to the gas? I already have two pretty decent Homelite Super EZAO's. They are an 11 pound power head which is the reason for looking for a lighter saw for some of my work.

Red What's the wieght on the newer Echo's 370, 400, 450, 530? I'm thinking the 370, 400, and 450 might be close to the same, may as well get the 400 or 450. Steve

370 is 10lbs
400 is 10.1lbs
450 should tip the scales arouns 10.5 lbs, same as the older 440 model.
530 is 11.2lbs

You are talking a range from 37cc's to 50 cc's, and only 1.2lbs range.

Here's a couple websites that say they have them, the Home Depot one is in Canada so I don't know if they will ship to you. I still think you should take a look at the CS-306 I run a 12in bar on mine for compactness but it had no problem pulling a 14in bar.

The CS-346 is an old design and uses the reed valve engine with front mounted carburetor. The are SLOW and extremely underpowered compared to the CS-370 and CS-400's. The entire design of the saw isn't as good anyplace, we quickly dumped all of our top handle reed valve Echo saws in favor of the CS-360T. We had two 301's and one 3450 (pretty sure that's the number on it?). Although dead solid reliable, they were so slow you could go back in the house and drink another cup of coffee and have a donut before they'd get thru a 10" limb!....FWIW.....Cliff

I have a CS400 with a GB 14" bar on it, I think it's pretty darn light ("wicked light" even) and cuts OK for a 40cc saw.

I just don't understand why Echo puts an 18" bar on it. The optional 16" would be an improvement; with the 14" it is very well-balanced and performs significantly better.

I finally scored an Echo 346

I finally found a new Echo 346 on ebay and snatched it up tonight. Home Depot apparently has some at $299 on the net which I thought was a little steep. I got this one at $206 which I felt was a good deal. Thanks to all for your help and comments.

Ebay Echo 346 which is actually a 305

My new Ebay Echo 346 arrived and it is a 305 in a 346 box. The sellers seem very nice and I think will make it right but I'm still looking for a new or like new Echo 346.
