Just got this install done in time for this latest cold snap. I'm heating 3600 sf easily with medium sized fires and keeping the blower on low (1200 cfm). I can't believe how well and evenly it heats. I posted a few pics of my set-up. I did not like the 12" round coming off the unit, so I built my own plenum to fit over it and then supply my trunk line with 2-8" feeds. Working well....View attachment 260384View attachment 260385View attachment 260386View attachment 260387View attachment 260388

I wish I would've thought of that plenum as I have the same furnace with the round 12" pipe. Good idea.

Thanks, I'm actually going to add a 6" run off the top front and run it out to a bedroom above the garage. There is plenty of heat and plenty of air.

If I were you, I would have stuck with the 12" round, or put a rectangular trunk off the plenum of the woodfurnace into the ductwork. Those 2-8" ducts put out less flow than the single 12" duct. Also be careful, the ductwork looks close to the floor joists above from one unit to the other. There's strict clearances that should be followed incase of a power outage. There's a huge potential for alot of heat there. Other than that enjoy the heat! Don't know what we would do without our wood heat.

Don't clearances drop to 1" after the first 90 degree elbow? I did put a sheet of fiberock above the duct work just in case. I contacted Fire Chief directly to ask them several questions. My set-up was based on my discussion with them. Now, I am a little concerned.....

According to the manual those 2-8" ducts are okay, they're over the square inch requirements. Those 2 90's off the plenum have nothing to do with clearances. The manual states a 3" clearance from the ductwork to combustibles, but also states 18" from the furnace to heat trunk, so I'm not sure there. Normally a clearance is maintained for so many feet then reduced from there. Since they state 3" I would follow that, but not sure for how long. I would question the manufacturer and ask them the specifics just to be safe.

I can tell you for Sure that NFPA states 6in for the first 6 ft of supply then min of 1in after. Also my thought of the 2, 8 in ducts. They deliver less cfm then the 12 alone. Although mfg my say its ok, when there's no power you want the least amount of static pres. I would go 2 10 in rounds, to be safe. Plan for the worst, get the best.
