ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man was seriously injured Saturday in an accident with a wood splitter. Police say Louis Newman, 56, was chopping logs in his backyard when he partially amputated his left hand.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital and later transported to SUNY Upstate Hospital for further treatment.

That is just a shame. I had tendons cut in my right wrist, and I know it stinks not being able to use a hand. Hope and pray his Dr. can fix him up.

Prayers be with him. One thing we got to remember is safety first and foremost. I am a maint. supervisor working with heavy equipment all the time it's dangerous and it will get you when you least expect it.
