I picked up a decent 999f off craigslist this week. Acres internet lists 999 as 100.9 cc and the 999f as 103. Did the have different p/c or is this a typo. Was thinking of porting it with fairly simple widening of ports and a muffler mod. Are there decent gains to be had by doing this? Have plans to use it for milling. Thanks.

Changing port timing without experience may not help but a muff modd and a clean up of any casting imperfections and a good tune will. For milling l would want a saw closer to stock than one making peak hp way up in rpm....but thats just me. Nice saw, l am sure that thing will pull a chain like a train.

So why was it ported so many times? What was wrong with it? How did it stack up to your 385
When Dan had it he was new to saw building and Ed did some work on it for milling. Dave made a work saw out of it.
Although it was faster than my 385 it was too heavy for anything but bucking on a landing.
