I just bought around 300DL of Oregon (historic) 50C 0.404 0.050 (chain-
saw) chain with tie straps and presets for around USD170 (incl ship) - new,
that is, but still old :) .

Was that stupid or ingenious?

(Well - I know I can make use of it, so what I am really asking I suppose is
if what the correct "market value" is, if there is one? Not that it is all money
in the world, but it is still interesting (at least for me) to know the "true val-
ue".)

OK - then I paid too much it seems :) ! Thanks for the info -
then I guess I instead have to try to feel good about having
helped someone to make his or her day :) !

Still I am in Sweden so I guess I have to expect a little higher
price here ... perhaps USD50 or so added to the USD75 ... .

There's not a lot of demand for .050 gauge 404. It can be had much cheaper than .063 kind of like .058 its an oddball size

If you mean my belly I think it must be at least as acceptable as an
avatar as to display woman bottoms etc :) ... THAT in Sweden could
make you loose your job, in fact - if you have an calendar with such
pictures, that is ... and rightly so ... not that this is the place I want
to discuss this at ... :) . Thanks for your feedback :) .

Are there some "tricks" involved in finding "historic chains" that I
have missed? ( :) )

For example, I would like to have some DL's of 9/16 and 5/8 cha-
ins - where do I find them? (At the right price :) .)

Do I have to choose between stupid and ingenious? Your not going to give me ANY range here? I don't know if I can choose. Nope, don't think I can. Good luck.

The only trick is spending hours a day looking for it and when you find it snap it up.

So - I changed my avatar to Bruce Lee - we look more or less the same
- the only major differences is that he is Chinese, I am a lot bigger and
he is dead :) - no big deal! (He is "flexing" on his picture - I was not on
my avatar - just let me make this minor point for the record ... .)

ANYWAY - the Oregon 50 0.404 0.050 chain I got was the lower one of
the two depicted:

DSC00239.JPG

Above it I have displayed a Carlton B2 0.404 0.058 Chisel chain. Above
tha Carlton chain I have put a 7/32 round file - and below the Oregon
50 chain a 1/4 round file ... .

The Oregon 50 chain looks like nothing I have seen before - not that I
have seen so very much, though - the cutters have a lot bigger diameter
that the Carlton 0.404 chain - while the Carlton should be filed 7/32 the
Oregon chain seems to be more like 1/4 - is it a so called "Square Ground
Round Grind" chain? And if so, could it be an Oregon 50AL? And why are
the cutters covered in red vax? (I have taken away the red vax from one
of the cutters displayed ... .)

Thanks ...

*wax* :)

I suppose it's like cosmoline. Protectant.

Thaks mate - I sort of kind of figured that out I guess and
therefore what I really wondered about was I suppose is
why this chain has that (protectant), but no others?

And then again - I wonder why the chain I have obtained
has this huge cutter diameter - it is at least as a 1/4 file -
not at all like ordinary 0.404 chains which are filed 7/32 -
could it be that it is an harvester chain? (Which someone
suggested to me ... .)

THANKS!

I imagine it would have to be harvester. Rather large for a handheld saw.
