Anyone else got some overpriced **** out there?

Mountain bikers are as addicted as sawyers with CAD. There's a level of gear that even a regular mountain biker is going to insist on. I'm convinced this stuff is priced to what the market will bear, not what it's worth or even what it's R&D costs and marketing are. Well maybe, but we're talking some valves, a piston, some washers, an air sleeve, some oil, a spring, a FOX logo and voila $600 smackeroos.

$320-380 - Price for an industry standard shock about the price of a good h/o saw.

$595 - a modern industry standard shock the price of a better saw.

$674 - a better shock almost the price of an MS 261.

Just a freaking mountainbike shock for the level of user that uses them for what they are intended. Doesn't even have an engine. Oh wait, I'm the engine.

Had to replace a damaged shock a while ago when the cylinder got dinged up by the seatpost. It had lasted 10 years until that point, so I guess I got my money's worth. The replacement — about $400 — piston got a nice scratch about a month later ... oops, there goes the compression by the end of the ride.

So don't feel bad about buying that n+1 saw; ;) you're getting plenty of bang for your buck, IMO. :)

Not to mention frames alone going for $2000+. That's why I ride all late 90s to mid-2000s stuff - just can't afford to keep up with the times and trends. I figure in 10 years I'll be riding what's hot right now. At least that way I have time to figure out what was built well and what was junk.

Really? You're going to miss out on the joy of 82 different headset standards, 15 different bottom brackets, 3 different wheel sizes and just ride a bike that works? Sounds weird to me.

Did you create a new user name and leave this page open for your wife to read to justify your saw purchase?

If so, creative ill give you that.

a $1200 compound bow that I will shoot about 40 times this year,it will be out of style next year and be worth $400 if im lucky

Anything with a picture of a cat, dog or horse on it that is for sale. Instant huge markup.

How about bling on rides? Heck, just rides. Second weekend lately I am schlepping through town in my old raggedy japanese mini truck with a load of wood on it, huge shiny truck after truck after truck I see, not a single one had anything in the bed that was visible. Most of them have more in one wheel and tire than I have in my entire truck. Giant mud tires that are never taken off pavement, etc.

Saws are cheap...

Truth.

I won't buy a new bow.. Picked up a 2006 Bowtech Tribute last summer.. New strings/cables and it's like new again for under 300 bucks.. I'll probably shoot it till the limbs fracture.

Saws are actually a relatively cheap hobby compared to many.. I might buy one or two saws a year, and usually one leaves for every saw that comes in so my stable stays the same size. I just bought my first brand new saw for a little over 400 bucks, and it should last me at least 5 or 6 years. Although since I started spending time here I've been getting the CAD temptation again.

My Hoyt Carbon was $1200 but i shoot alot during the summer and i shoot brown critters but its still a lot of money[emoji15]

Started taking art classes. Got into airbrush painting big time. 1,500.00 worth of airbrushes ,at least 1000.00 worth of paint. 275 dollar easel. Only did one painting that paid any money at all. At least I can earn some money with the saws and climbing equipment

Don't forget motocross. Some of the best days of my life at the track mixing it up with 39 other psychos at the same time. Lots of money. Bikes. Tires. Bent handlebars. The list goes on and on. But what I wouldn't give for one last go round on a fully prepped national caliber travel. Can you smell the VP and Turbo Blue? I sure can . good times
