over rev at idle

Dolmar 7900 just started this a short time ago where it would not completely Idle down. Runs fast enough to move chain 32" bar. Saw is about 10 years old not a super hard life. Had some time to poke around on it today so fired it up, No bar and it really takes off. Sprayed some carb cleaner around the sides of the carb right side seemed to have an affect. Air Leak? Am I on the right track. Diagnostics on small engs. not one of my better venues, but I get bye. Chris

If the cleaner slowed it down you got an air leak in there.

Check the boot for a tear.

Update, took into dealer, thinks it might be the crankshaft seals, Dolmar rep will be in on this coming Monday. Dealer said they would contact me after rep takes a peak. He did not say if the rep was sales or service or combined, I did not think to ask either. ( gettin slow in my advanced years)

it does sound like an air leak...leaning out too much.

I had a problem with split pulse line between case and carb, air leak and sudden high idle.
