I have been using big unsplit blocks lately that were cut summer 2011. No doubt in my mind that they burn longer that split stuff. I normally have to load twice a day. With this stuff I am getting 24 hour burns easily. Night time temps around -10C

I cut mine 18-20" and split most anything that I can't pick up with one hand. If I have some rounds that are already dried from a dead tree I might leave it in the round if not to heavy. I tried burning the big stuff the first few years I had mine but get sick of trying to load and maneuver the big chunks in the stove. The dry splits seem to shorten the cycle times in my opinion as well as I think they get going and up to temp quicker than the bigger chunks. I load in the morning and at night.
