Hello all, may be getting my second sthil, just have to be in the 6cube+ club, need it NO, want it YES, the saw lived its life as a sawmill yard saw (remove bell ends and shorten out of spec sawlogs) it has some paintloss as can be expected, recoil is worn from air conductor rubbing, throttle linkage has a combination lock, gotta hold the trigger just right to get half choke all just wear issued, broken top cover plastic, now for the good piston looks new , compression 140-145 cold checked 4 times 5 pulls whew!!Went outside to run it popped in 2 started after 2 more pumped oil ran well but stalled if tipped on side so the seals seem to be good? , leaned l/s made that better, wow what a machine, the only reason Im looking @ this is because I cant come close to a 3120 for $400 and this saw should be a good machine for milling when I get the equipment, just wanted some input from owners and ops .
Thanks in advance Jim:D

ive got myself a 084 very nice strong saw. They are well built and noramally good for milling. Some parts are starting to be discontinued but most are available. If it runs good and you think it runs good Get it !
Just on a note some 084's had limited coils and carbs not hard to change just might annoy you a bit whilst milling.

Hey man I'll tell you this if that's how it is and that's all they want for it GRAB it. I got one and that thing is a hoss. Mine wears a 25 to a 36" bar and it has no trouble with um. Put that 25" on and go to the logpile and you can tear up jack in short order.

It's a lot of saw for firewood cause it's heavy but you can get done before the weight comes into play. The parts are pricey for um but if you take care of it it'll be there for a long time.

I got mine from a gentleman at church that could no longer run it and I gave $400 for it and it looks brand new. So I mostly stole it but that's what he told me he wanted for it. I like my work saw so much we got a race saw just for giggles and that thing is a blast to run also.
Hope this helps and hope if you get it you enjoy it.
Joe

I have 2 084's really solid saws....Yeah check out the crankcase bearings' if they are OK cool.... Change out the seals and you should be ready for milling,,,,

Best firewood saw I got. :msp_rolleyes:

Hey Ripcord I been hunting for someone that wants a good 084 and they just don't want to shell out the cash for a good saw. Guess they'll never know what we know about these old school work horse's.
Joe

I like my 084 more than my 088, there a great saw. As for the stalling if you flip mine on its side fast it will stall out also. I am sure there will be alot of opinions on this problem but I have changed the seals which didnt fix anything so then I vac and presure tested and it passed with flying colors, then I pulled of the ported cyl and put on a brand new one I had also a new carb and none of this changed any thing. It still stalls when fliped fast. I also presure tested all the lines. James

Now what would you want with an 084? What are they good for?;)

I built mine from scratch using 95% NOS parts, including the cases. It's wearing a 9-pin 3/8 rim in all of these vids, except maybe the milling one. In that case I think I had a 8-pin on it.

The one you're looking at sounds like a good deal for $400 as a work saw. Doesn't sound like anything spendy needs repaired.

You can't run this 084 without hearing protection. It is by far the the loudest most ear piercing saw I own.
