Poulan 3300 Something got hot

Got a 3300 off ebay for parts, turns out the saw is in pretty good shape except for the top cover. In the pics you can see where the cover is melted. It lines up with the muffler plate. Piston and cylinder are in excellent condition. Is this a problem with 3300's? Maybe the muffler was loose at one time? Just do not want the new cover to end up the same way.

I'd go with the loose muffler theory, what else is there...?

or muffler wasnt put back together right after tear down. Been there once. :msp_sad:

Hot exhaust coming from the 2 joining seam halves.

I like that answer, bet I spent 15 minutes trying to get the muffler to set good, even said a bad word or two.
