The recoil assembly was broken on my second hand store purchase and was told that the 3400, 3700 and 3800 were the same. Lucked out when I found a used 3400 asembly at a local repair facility. Not so lucky when after installing it I found that the pulley isn't long enough to engage the flywheel assembly. So, either the pulley is wrong, the flywheel assembly is wrong or I don't actually have a 3700 and Poulan couldn't tell me what my serial number #37391600 was for. Any suggestions ?

Thanks ,

Mike

If you have a true green Poulan 3700, you need a different pulley, there is one on eBay now that will fit your saw.

530026371 is the part # but it is mislabeled. Very unique pulley.

I'll grab a pic tonight and post it but going from memory it looks like the top one on Hotshot's post. Thank for the replies, I've some direction now and won't have to junk it.

Sorry the pics aren't clearer but hopefully someone can see where this needs to be corrected. I did call a Poulan dealer who has the 3700 flywheel and that measurement is correct so that shouldn't be the issue.

Michael, like I said before, if you truly have a green Poulan 3700 with original flat starter dogs on the flywheel you will need pulley # 530010674 or pulley # 530026371 which is for a 4000 but will work on the 3700. You could also change the flywheel to a 3400 type and use pulley # 530028487 or # 530069290

I had to do that swap myself, if you can get the 4000 pulley, the middle one in acorns picture, it lends itself to being more robust than the original 3700 pulley (left in pic)

If you can post a picture of the face of your flywheel, so we can physically see what set of starter dogs it has, very well could have been swaped years ago, the only difference in flywheels are the starter dogs themselves

Ok with that flywheel you need the pulley part number 530026371. What you have there is a 3700-4000 flywheel and a 3400 statrter pulley . I would just find the pulley part number i mentioned. And keep the flywheel you have. Its the center pulley in acornhills picture.
