I know this is not a professional machine but it is 12 hp and has a drum- so it is not a "big box" chipper. I just bought this chipper off of CL and after a little maintenance it seams to do a very good job on branches less than 4".

My question is at what point are the knives considered dull? I can flip the knives as they have not been yet. The edge on the cutters are in good condition- not razor sharp but not worn either.

The manual says the knives cannot be sharpened. Is this to sell more parts or is there some reason that I should not take a file to them?

Any advice is appreciated!

i just rotated my knives/hammers/flails recenty. was a pain but i think worth it. if your knives are rounded then rotate. you have 3 other sides to use-use them.

You do not want to sharpen your knives. The tomahawk is designed as a hammer mill. Sharpening the knives will only result in shorter life.

The machine is designed to pulverize, not cut.
