I went through 4 full cords of hemlock, spruce & ewp last spring making syrup. The evaporator goes into a brick chimney with a clay liner. Years of this, theres a thin layer of black soot in there, but no creosote. Burns fast & hot, you have to load more than with hardwood, but it's not like you can wander off once things get hot. Burnt pans will ruin your day. Also started running some poplar, tulip & sycamore in the Garn I installed here for the house. Good dry stuff, no smoke, lots of heat.
