How close is too close? I have a Shumard Red oak I'd like to keep but it's 6 feet to the nearest point of the foundation, which is a nook that sticks out about 3 feet from the base line.

I'd like to keep the tree if feasible, but if I need to take it down, now is the time as it is already almost 10" diameter at ground level.

Would a root barrier be feasible? If so, please elaborate as I don't know much about them.

soil site slope all factors please post pic.

Barriers and root pruning are options.
