UPDATE - tree still kickin'!

Well, it's been about three weeks now and I've been tending to the tree as best I can. Good news is that there are still a few green leaves hanging on. The rest are dead. I've also lightly and carefully scratched several branches with my fingernail and they're all a vibrant green underneath - even those whose leaves are all dead. So it seems the tree is still going.

I've also discovered a wound at the base of the tree I didn't notice before (it was covered in dirt). Looks like a rodent wound?

I've attached some new pics. Two questions -

1) Given that the tree has made it through the worst part of the hot summer, what are the chances it might make it through until Spring?

2) How does the wound look? It seems clean and the exposed inner wood seems to be dry and hard - i.e. no rot or fungus. Are chances good it will seal over and not rot further inside? i.e. successful CODIT?

Thanks!
