Question

I stihl rep from the hillcountry in South Texas (ranch land) - told me in his opinion he thought most around here use the RSC chain when infact he felt most could do better with the RM chain?? Any comments on this..

After searching a 2nd time - I found WINDTHROWN's post on RM being a good/better chain in the long run then RSC.. Looks the the stihl rep was really trying to give me good advice!

As I understand it, RM is semi-chisel and RSC is full-chisel. The RSC should cut faster, but will need more sharpening. A lot of people like to use RM in dirty wood becuase it won't dull as fast. At least that's what I'm told...

Semi chisel (RM) is better for cutting dirty, hard wood, brush, and where the chain gets run through the dirt. It will maintain an edge longer as well.

Full Chisel (RSC) is best used for cutting clean green wood.
